Some story lines on The Grange of Kaolin, St Restitut, St Paul Trois Chateaux and Drôme Provençale | | | | La Grange du Kaolin | | The building was built centuries ago on Roman remains (which is still guessing on the left, beside the staircase). You will notice the inspiration and Roman footprint in the bathroom on the ground floor. Rebuilt 3 centuries ago, a succession of farming families have lived, living in autarky from vegetables, cereals and herding sheep.
In 1922, we saw the exploitation of kaolin, white clay rock is extracted manually using the peak in the galleries located on the field. We filled the cars, which drove the ore to a crusher where it was crushed to give a compact texture and was mixed with water in the river (in order to separate the clay end of coarse sand). The milt was subsequently pressed to provide round patches of 3 to 4 cm thick plates ready for shipment after drying. These plates were shipped to factories polish, paper mills and workshops especially to china. The abandoned mines are still visible in the property following the signs to wooden footpath.
After the abandonment of kaolin quarries in the 30s for reasons of profitability, the house was abandoned and returned to nature has reasserted itself.
In 2000, Gerald launches challenge to renovate and rehabilitate the building partially collapsed, to make you enjoy today.
The work took 3 years. The renovation was made in the rules of art, fine materials have been used to revive the "Grange of Kaolin.
The 1st tenants have occupied the premises in July 2005. |
